The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) is an autonomous academic national
institution of the Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India dedicated
to research in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Allied Sciences & Technology. The
Institute has its main campus in Koramangala, Bengaluru and CREST campus at
Hosakote, Bengaluru. It operates field stations at Kavalur & Kodaikanal in Tamil
Nadu, Gauribidanur in Karnataka, and Leh/Hanle, Ladakh in Jammu & Kashmir.
India has joined the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) project, the next generation
astronomical observatory that will be located on Mauna Kea, Hawaii. India’s
participation in the TMT Project, led by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIAP,
Bengaluru, Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune
and Aryabhatta Research Institute for Observational Sciences (ARIES), Nainital is
coordinated by the India TMT Coordination Centre (ITCC) hosted at IIA,
Bengaluru. The TMT project is an international partnership between California
Institute of Technology (CalTech), Universities of California, Canada, Japan, China

Remuneration : Rs. 40000/- per month (Consolidated)

Educational Qualification: M.Sc (Physics/Optics/Applied Optics) with a minimum of 60% marks from a recognized University/Institution.
Experience: Minimum two years of experience in an industry/public sector/Government in Optics and Optical/Astronomical instrumentation area.
Job Description: Selected candidates will work with India-TMT instrumentation development team. The work will be related to optical design, development and design analysis of instruments for the thirty meter telescope. The instruments are primarily imaging and spectrographs that operate in wavelength range of 0.31 to 25 microns. Candidates should have proficiency in design and analysis in ZEMAX, Python/Matlab packages. Job includes preparing technical documents and reports. As the work involves collaboration with international groups, good communication skills are essential.
