The National Institute of Design (NID)
The National Institute of Design (NID) is an autonomous premier institution set up by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, for design education, training, research and consultancy services in various disciplines of design. The institute has campuses in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Bengaluru. The institute offers a higher professional qualification in several disciplines of design at undergraduate/ B.Des, post-graduate/M.Des and research/Ph.D levels. Government of India has declared NID as an Institute of National Importance by NID Act 2014 of Indian Parliament.
Faculty members at NID are expected to demonstrate a high level of academic and professional competence with leadership qualities; inclination towards design research, publication and professional practice; proven ability with technological tools and processes, and active involvement in academic governance. The Institute offers opportunity to work in a unique, creative work culture and also encourages faculty members for professional consultancy for prescribed number of days per year
The Institute invites applications from high caliber design educators/ professionals having relevant qualification & proven experience in the areas of design for the Faculty Positions at following levels;
I. Associate Senior Faculty:
a. Essential Qualification and Experience:- PG or equivalent in Design or related subject with minimum 10 years of experience in design education/research/profession. OR
- UG or equivalent in Design or related subject with minimum 12 years of experience in design education/research/profession.
The post carries Pay Level-11 as per the 7th Central Pay Commission recommendations. Basic Pay in the above pay matrix will be Rs. 67,700 plus admissible allowances as per the Govt. of India and NID norms.Approximate Gross Emoluments at the minimum of the above pay matrix will be Rs. 85,687/- per month.
The Institute, at its discretion, may offer initial appointment on contractual basis for a fixed tenure, with consolidated/ fixed pay commensurate with qualifications, experience etc.

II. Faculty:
a. Essential Qualification and Experience:- PG or equivalent in Design or related subject with minimum three years of experience in design education/research/profession. OR
- UG or equivalent in Design or related subject with minimum five years of experience in design education/research/profession.
The post carries Pay Level-09 as per the 7th Central Pay Commission recommendations. Basic Pay in the above pay matrix will be Rs. 53,100 plus admissible allowances as per the Govt. of India and NID norms.Approximate Gross Emoluments at the minimum of the above pay matrix will be Rs. 68,982/- per month.
The Institute, at its discretion, may offer initial appointment on contractual basis for a fixed tenure, with consolidated/ fixed pay commensurate with qualifications, experience etc.

III. Teaching/ Research Associates:
The institute also invites applications from the fresh design graduates, having UG-GDPD/PG- PGDPD (B.Des/ M.Des) qualification from a reputed design institute/ university with flair and interest in design education and research. Good communication skills and documentation abilities are highly desirable. Maximum Age limit is 28 years.Selected candidates will be paid all-inclusive consolidated salary of Rs. 22,000/- per month* for first year and Rs. 25,000/- per month* for the second year. (* The consolidated pay is under upward revision after 7th Central Pay Commission implementation)
The positions are on fix tenure and are on contractual appointments for one year-it may be extended for maximum one more year based on a performance review.
Teaching/ Research Associates are required to support various academic activities in its different disciplines/ programmes/ departments at Undergraduate as well as Postgraduate levels. The positions are open for the Design Foundation Programme as well as other design disciplines as mentioned in the list given below.
All the positions are available under following Design Disciplines. Preferred sub-specializations are indicated therewith. Individuals having expertise in more than one subject areas shall be preferred.Selected candidates will be placed in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar or Bengaluru campus depending on where the relevant discipline is located.
